What should we know during conduct DC hipot test?

Dc hipot test is an important method to evaluate the insulation performance of electrical equipment or materials, but the following points need to be noted during the test process to ensure the accuracy and safety of the test:

1. Preparation before the test
Equipment inspection: Ensure that test instruments (such as DC high-voltage generators) are in good condition and calibrated accurately.
Environmental conditions: The test environment should be dry and clean, and avoid high humidity or conductive dust, so as not to affect the test results.
Device status: The device under test should be in a power-off state and ensure that there is no residual charge in it.
2. Selection of test voltage

Standard voltage: The test voltage should be determined according to the technical specifications of the equipment or related standards (such as IEC, GB, etc.), usually 1.5 to 3 times the rated voltage.
Step up rising voltage: The voltage should be gradually increased during the test to avoid damage to the device caused by sudden high voltage.
Voltage stability: Ensure that the test voltage is stable to avoid fluctuations affecting the test results.

3. Precautions during testing
Time control: The test time is usually short (such as 1 to 5 minutes) to avoid overheating or insulation aging caused by prolonged high pressure.
Monitoring current: During the test, the leakage current is monitored. If the current increases abnormally, it may indicate that the insulation is defective.
Safety protection: The operator should wear protective equipment, such as insulation gloves and shoes, and keep a safe distance.

4. Attention after-test treatment
Discharge operation: After the test, the device under test must be fully discharged to avoid the danger of electric shock caused by residual charge.
Result recording: Record test voltage, leakage current, test time, and other data in detail for subsequent analysis.
Equipment inspection: Check the appearance and insulation status of the equipment after testing to ensure that there is no breakdown or damage.

5. Handle special cases
High humidity: If the ambient humidity is too high, the test result may be inaccurate. Therefore, you are advised to perform the test again in a dry environment.
Device exception: If an exception (such as smoke or odor) occurs during the test, stop the test immediately and locate the cause.
Long distance cables: For long distance cables, capacitance effects should be considered, and the voltage should be increased slowly and the test time should be extended.
