How to maintain the high voltage transformer

Surface
All surfaces are finished with heavy-duty polyurethane paints and will provide adequate protection against the elements in normal use. It is recommended that the finish be wiped down for a longer life and for proper electrical operation of the unit. Also inspect all fabrication joints for oil leakage. If a leak is found, consult the factory.
Silica Gel Breathers
Some transformers may have a silica gel breather attached to dry the air as it goes in and out of the unit during warm-up and cool-down. These units should be cleaned by wiping. The bodies of the units are made of plastic so care should be used when working with them. The silica gelvisible inside is gold when dry but turns dark green when it has reached its capacity to absorb moisture and must be replaced. The time between replacements depends on the humidity of the air and the variations in the loading of the transformer. The usual interval between each replacement is about 12 months, but if the humidity is very high, this interval will be shorter. To avoid leaving the transformer unprotected it is advisable to have spare breathers available.
Input and Output Bushings
The only maintenance required on the input bushings is to keep the porcelain clean. The output bushing requires that the tank receptacle and bushing be kept clean. Upon removal of the bushing, the dust cover must be installed on the bushing and the receptacle plug must be installed in the tank to ensure debris does not contaminate the surfaces. For installation of the bushing, surfaces must be clean and greased. The surfaces may be cleaned with denatured alcohol (as this will not leave a film/residue on the surfaces and will evaporate quickly). The grease is to be applied to the rubber portion of the bushing and contact surface inside the receptacle.
Transformer Oil Maintenance
At time intervals, ranging from six months to one year, the oil purity should be checked in the high voltage sections to verify its reliability. If the transformer is subject to adverse weather or an oil leak develops, the oil purity should be checked regularly
