How to choose the model of Power frequency withstand voltage test equipment?

Apr 11, 2025 Leave a message

The Power Frequency Withstand Voltage Test is a crucial step in ensuring the safety and reliability of electrical equipment.
During the Power Frequency Withstand Voltage Test, the equipment is subjected to a high voltage, typically at power frequency (50 Hz or 60 Hz), for a certain duration to simulate the worst-case operating conditions. This test is essential for identifying any weaknesses or defects in the insulation system of the equipment that could lead to electrical breakdowns, short circuits, or even fires.
Choosing suitable power frequency hipot test equipment for testing work is very important. Here are some factors for your reference.

Main parameters for the power frequency hipot test equipment.

1. Rated voltage

Basis: the highest working voltage of the equipment under test (such as a 10kV switchgear needs 42kV power frequency voltage, according to GB/T 16927.1 standard).
Suggestion: Select the maximum voltage of the device ≥1.2~1.5 times the test voltage (reserve margin)

2. Rated capacity

computational formula: P=2πfCU2×10−3 (C is the equivalent capacitance of the tested equipment, f is 50Hz)

Simplified estimates:
Low-voltage equipment (400V) : 3~5kVA
10kV cable (300mm²) : 50~100kVA
110kV transformer: 200~500kVA

3. Output waveform distortion rate

Requirements: ≤5% (GB/T 16927.2) to avoid harmonics affecting test accuracy.

Function and configuration selection

1. Voltage regulation mode

Manual voltage regulation: low cost, suitable for small capacity testing in fixed places.
Electric voltage regulation/automatic control: Support program-controlled boost, timing, and protection, suitable for high-voltage laboratory or batch testing.
2. Protection function

Prerequisites: overcurrent protection, flashover protection, and zero start protection.
Extensions: automatic discharge, remote emergency stop, and ground alarm (required in high-risk scenarios).
3. Measurement accuracy

Voltage/current measurement: error ≤1% (built-in or external calibration voltage divider required).
Partial discharge detection interface: optional (GIS, cable connector, etc., need to monitor partial discharge synchronously)
