Pre-Commissioning Motors

Nov 26, 2024 Leave a message

Pre-commissioning procedures for motors ensure that your machines operate efficiently and effectively for a long time. Properly conducted, these procedures can help to identify potential issues early on, prevent costly downtime, and ensure safe and reliable operation.

Here are some standard steps that should be taken before commissioning your motors:

Generator

Visual Inspection
Inspect the motor for any physical damage or defects. Inspect the motor to ensure it is in good condition. Check the motor and the packaging for any signs of damage, such as dents, cracks, or scrapes. Verify that the motor's nameplate information matches your requirements.
Mechanical checks
Check the motor alignment, coupling, bearing condition, lubrication, and other mechanical components.
Electrical checks
Verify that the motor is wired correctly and that the voltage, current, and frequency are within the specified range.
Insulation Resistance test
Measure the insulation resistance of the motor windings.
Megger Test
Measure the insulation resistance of the motor windings with a high-voltage tester.
Polarization Index Test
Measure the insulation quality of the motor windings. The merger test and polarization index test can be achieved by the insulation resistance tester. We have a model with multi -functions, which can meet the test requirements.
Hi-pot Test
Apply a high voltage to test the insulation strength of the motor windings. Normally, we use an AC high-voltage tester to measure power frequency. Applying the test voltage can test the insulation strength of the motor winding, as shown in the picture.
Rotor bar test
Test the rotor bar for any defects.
Bearing Insulation Test
Test the insulation resistance of the motor bearings. The insulation resistance tester can test it.
Vibration Analysis
Measure the vibration levels of the motor to detect any abnormalities.
Thermal Imaging
Use an infrared camera to identify hot spots on the motor that may indicate a problem. The handheld thermal imaging tester can do the testing for it. It can Intuitive present the motor situation through the tester.
Load Test
Test the motor under load to verify its performance and efficiency. If the motor is part of a larger system, conduct load testing to ensure that the motor can handle the load and operate efficiently. This test may involve starting the motor with a load, running the engine under load, and measuring the current and voltage.
