AC Hipot testing, also known as Dielectric Withstand (DW) testing, is a non-destructive electrical test used to assess the insulation integrity of electrical equipment. It involves applying a high AC voltage to the equipment under test (EUT) to stress its insulation system and identify any potential weaknesses or defects.
Key Points:
● Purpose: To ensure insulation can withstand operating and transient voltages.
● Process: High AC voltage is applied, and current is monitored.
● Pass/Fail: Test fails if the current exceeds a threshold.
● Applications: Motors, generators, transformers, cables, PCBs, medical devices,
automotive components.
Three test methods are commonly used for producing this applied power frequency or close to applied power frequency, which are the conventional AC test transformer method, the variable inductance resonant test method, and the variable frequency
resonant test system method.
ADVANTAGES OF VARIABLE FREQUENCY RESONANT TEST SYSTEMS
● VRTS systems are equipped with three-phase input. This will ensure a more balanced loading of the input service. When performing onsite tests lower power generators can be used.
● Due to the fact that the reactor gap is non-moveable the weight of variable frequency modules can be up to 50% lighter than the conventional variable inductance modules
● By using a square wave the variable frequency systems can be used to make partial discharge measurements.
● Due to the more mechanical rigid construction of the reactor operating noise is significantly reduced.
Wuhan Huayi Electric Power Technology has been a professional manufacturer of variable frequency resonant test systems in China since 2005, we have much experience in manufacturing and on-field testing, which can provide the best solution for you to reduce the cost and satisfy the test requirements.
